Can I design my own home if I work with Wisconsin Log Homes?

 Every Wisconsin Log Homeowner has essentially designed their own home, but with the help and guidance of an experienced designer and home consultant. Our goal is to create a custom floor plan and style that matches each family’s lifestyle, needs and budget. Whether we start with one of our floor plans or from scratch, we’ll work together to design the perfect home for you.

How much does it cost to have my home designed by Wisconsin Log Homes?

 The designing of your home is free once you purchase your Wisconsin Log Homes Materials Package. We require a $1.00 per square foot down payment in order to start the preliminary designing of your home. That amount will be credited towards your Wisconsin Log Home.

How much maintenance will I be faced with by building a Wisconsin Log Home?

 There is no log-wall settling or necessary structural maintenance with our Thermal-Log™ building system. The only maintenance required by owning a Wisconsin Log Home is re-staining the exterior logs and touching up caulk once every 5 to 8 years. Wisconsin Log Homes supplies stain and caulk products for your convenience.

Can we modify a floor plan we like?

What wood species does Wisconsin Log Homes offer?

 We offer Northern White Pine, Western Red Cedar, White Cedar, Canadian Spruce and custom orders of your choice.

Where do your logs come from?

 Our logs come from areas where the species of wood we desire is predominant, such as Northern Wisconsin and Michigan for White Pine and Northwest Canada/British Columbia for Western Red Cedar and large Spruce.

How do we do business long distance?

 The distance between our clients and the Wisconsin Log Homes headquarters is as close as the nearest computer. Quite a bit of the interaction we will have can be successfully accomplished with computers and modern-day technology. This includes e-mails, fax, fast parcel services, and phone. You’ll also enjoy using our On-Line Conference™ to interact and collaborate with your designer on your home. Our On-Line Conference™ allows you to view your floor plans via high-speed internet and speak directly with your design team as you watch your desired revisions made from your own computer screen. You don’t have to operate any software; simply follow the web link, sit back, relax and watch your computer screen. We’ve truly perfected the Design Build Solution over the last 30+ years to make the process as smooth and convenient as possible.

“Is a half-log or full-log home more energy and cost efficient?”

 Absolutely our half-log building system is more energy efficient. At Wisconsin Log Homes we use a half-log building system with an air-tight insulated core instead of a full-log system in order to increase the energy efficiency and insulating value of our homes. Wiring and plumbing can be done conventionally and all log wall settling is eliminated. The R-value of wood is basically 1.30 per inch of wood. So a 10-inch thick solid log wall would be equivalent to a R-13 value. When you consider the seam of each stacked log being about 4 to 5-inches thick the R factor at this seam is reduced to only 6.5. Our Thermal-Log provides over R-35.

How much will my home cost?

 The cost of your hybrid log or timber home is dependent on many variables. The most important 4 factors that accumulate the overall cost of your home are size, complexity, finishes and location.

1.) SIZE
The impact square footage has on your home’s cost is obvious - bigger homes need more building materials and labor.

2.) COMPLEXITY
Complex and unique designs with multiple corners, rooflines and bump outs will most likely require a larger building budget. If you stick to a modest design and use decorative accents to dress the home up, your cost will generally be more economical and your home will still be aesthetically appealing.

3.) FINISHES
High-end materials naturally cost more than standard options. Granite countertops are more expensive than laminate countertops, wood flooring costs more than laminate flooring, and wood walls are more costly than drywall. More and more homeowners are choosing to design smaller homes with all the luxurious amenities that are so appreciated.

4.) LOCATION
The cost of living varies in different areas throughout the world. The same home built in opposite ends of the country could have two very different prices. Local market conditions can also affect the price you’ll pay for land, labor or materials.
 Aside from the location, the site you plan to build your home on has a great impact on the overall price of your project. Building on a flat piece of land is very different than constructing your home on a steep, rocky cliff. The flatter the property is, the easier and less expensive it is to build on.
